Palau de la Virreina
the Citizen Office for Culture

The Citizen Office for Culture, a centre for providing support and advice to Barcelona’s cultural fabric, opens to the public on 2 June

Located on the ground floor of the Palau de la Virreina, where the Tiquet Rambles office had been housed up to now (La Rambla, 99), the Citizen Office for Culture will be opening to the public this Tuesday, 2 June.  The venue's transformation is expected to be completed by September 2021, though it will already be offering assistance to individuals and organisations from the city’s cultural fabric as from this June.

The office is intended to be a new welcoming space for providing support and advice to the city’s cultural fabric. A gradual implementation is planned which will transform its portfolio of services and adapt it to the needs of the sector, but without losing the assistance to the public it had been offering up to now, such as ticket sales, a last-minute discount service for shows and information on Barcelona’s cultural offerings.
Advice service for associations from the city's cultural fabric

During this initial stage, it will already be offering direct advice on the extraordinary call for municipal grant and subsidy applications in the current context arising from the COVID-19 crisis. The service will be launched during the application-submission period for this extraordinary call.

It will also provide, among other things, personalised assistance on the measures of the Shock Plan activated by the City Council to tackle the crisis. It will be expanding these specialist advice services over time.

Service by prior appointment
For the purposes of adapting the office to the health recommendations issued for dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, a prior-appointment service will be launched to enable citizens and organisations from the city’s cultural fabric to arrange a day and time for visiting the office. When it is opened, and for health and safety reasons, the office will be able to assist a maximum of 4 people at a time, so it will not be possible for individuals to access the space accompanied by others as visitors are required to be on their own.

Culmination of the project in December 2021
The project will later enter its second stage with work for adapting the office's space expected to be completed by December 2020. Finally, the project will enter its third stage, running from the start of the coming year up to the end of December 2021, which will also involve the transformation of the courtyard and other services at the Palau de la Virreina. A transformation that will help to connect the Virreina more directly with the Rambla and turn the Barcelona Institute of Culture’s gateway into a truly welcoming meeting space for the city's cultural fabric and citizens alike.
