Ciutat Flamenco

Great musicians, “bailaores” and “cantaores” come to town for Ciutat Flamenco

Over two weeks, we will be able to see loads of concerts in this genre at venues all over Barcelona.

Last year, the Ciutat Flamenco festival celebrated a quarter of a century, and is stronger than ever. This year, it is back with the twenty-sixth edition and, as always, with the best flamenco artists. These musicians, “bailaores” and “cantaores” have shared their art all over the world, and we are lucky to be able to see their performances. Chicuelo will kick off the festival with his latest work, Uña y carne, at L’Auditori, after an eleven-year break since his previous album. Other performances will include Rocío Márquez, presenting her fifth album Visto en el jueves for the first time in Catalonia. And Antonio Rey will also be premièring a new work, combining the rigidity of “jondo” tradition and the expressive eloquence of jazz. Another of the greats who will be visiting is María Terremoto with La huella de mi sentío, presented as part of the 2018 Biennial of Flamenco in Seville. We will also have the opportunity to see Bailaoras. El nuevo tiempo, “bailaora” La Chana, Antonio Lizana, Lluís Vidal and Pere Martínez, among many others.

The Ciutat Flamenco festival will take place from 16 to 31 May. The activities will be held at Luz de Gas, L’Auditori de Barcelona, BARTS and Taller de Músics 24. Plus, this year the festival will include the I Congrés de Flamencologia i Pedagogia Flamenca, featuring chats, master classes, exhibitions, recitals and panel discussions on the topic. The congress will be on 24 and 25 May at Aclam Club Guitar.

The Ciutat Flamenco activities have various prices, including some free events. You can get tickets on the festival website.
