The Cloudy Dog concert programme gets underway
From the 30th of September on, the international independent music scene will benefit from performances by artists the likes of Angel Olson, Future Islands and Pere Ubu
In less than two years of existence, concert promoters Cloudy Dog have staged more than twenty concerts, the majority of them featuring international performers. This autumn’s presentation consists of a succulent and generous helping of seven performances that will take place between the 30th of September and the 13th of December – The First Cloudy Dog Concert Programme.
The inaugural event will feature Angel Olson (30/09), a North American singer-songwriter with impressive vocal technique whose latest release, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, earned her a significant and well-deserved boost in popularity. Another female performer, Marissa Nadler (7/10) heads the second instalment with her unique brand of narcotic folk. Future Islands (20/10), on the other hand, offers a significant change of pace, their latest album Singles being one of the electro-beat-pop releases of the season.
To date, Glass Animals (22/10) have not shared the same fortune, though their proposal is by no means less interesting. The same can be said of Peaking Lights (6/11), a creative duo with a suggestive, nebulous blend of psychedelic pop, electronic sounds, German rock and Jamaican rhythms. The veteran slot of the programme will be occupied by Pere Ubu (28/11), a band formed by David Thomas in 1975 that has garnered institution-level status among fans of American rock and punk angst. The programme will finish with Owen Pallet (13/12), the artist who, prior to 2010, was known as Final Fantasy. The concert on the 13th has been programmed to coincide with the presentation of his latest, critically acclaimed release, In Conflict, which boasts the collaboration of Brian Eno.
The First Cloudy Dog Concert Programme will take place from the 30th of September to the 13th of December in venues such as the Razzmatazz, the Apolo and the Music Hall. Prices vary for each concert and more information is available on the Cloudy Dog website.
