Concentrated contemporary dance at Sala Hiroshima
Manuel Roque, Physical Momentum and the Re-Mou-Te cycle are the stand-out events in January.
In its less than one year of existence, Sala Hiroshima in Carrer Vila i Vilà in Poble-sec has become an important part of the city’s alternative arts scene, especially for fans of risk-taking, experimental contemporary dance. Following this line, this January sees a diverse representation of the venue’s special character.
Firstly, the choreographer Manuel Roque will present his solo performance DATA on the 8th and 9th of January. Inspired by the composer Gabriel Fauré’s Réquiem, it uses a virtuosic and turbulent physicality to speak about the mutation of the material, with open reflections on multiple identities and the collective subconscious.
On the 13th, it’s time for the Physical Momentum Project, featuring Antonella Sampieri and Lali Aiguadé, who are appearing with 3 ¼, a set of short pieces that aims to introduce us to three new choreographers who use very different scenic languages and tools.
Finally, the 14th and 15th of January will see a visit by the Re-Mou-Te project, an initiative by the Asociación de Profesionales de la Danza de Cataluña (APdC) and the Fundación SGAE which aims to bring together dance creators from different generations with the objective of highlighting Catalonia’s existing choreographic legacy. It’s a collaboration that allows the spectator to see pieces and material created by other generations interpreted by new creators. Past and present come together this January at Sala Hiroshima.
