New Orleans' Hot Jazz at the Harlem
A concert by La Vodoo Jazz Band, a quintet lead by singer and guitarist Ugne Reikalaite.
If, for one night, you want to feel like you're in the New Orleans from a century ago, take note of this concert on Saturday, 19 February at the Harlem Jazz Club. La Voodoo Jazz Band, a quintet that recreates great traditional jazz tunes, especially New Orleans Hot Jazz, with its own arrangements, will take the stage. Ugne Reikalaite (vocals and guitar), Naná Rovira (clarinet), Pablo López (piano and banjo), Henrique Mendoza (saxophone) and Aram Montagut (trombone) are the ones that make up the band. The concert will start at 10,30 p.m. However, doors will open at 8 p.m.
The group is characterised by a warm and explosive live performance, with swing and traditional jazz as the key elements of their repertoire. They also try to transport the audience to the golden age of these genres, when the connection between artists and spectators was essential, and the concerts invited the audience to actively participate through complicity and empathy and, above all, transmitting a lot of joy... a fantastic choice, thus, to charge up with energy and good vibes! The members of La Voodoo say: "The fact that more than a century after its golden age, rhythms such as ragtime, Dixieland or blues are still present today is proof that jazz is still a universal and timeless musical style."
The quintet's concert is one of the many the Harlem will host throughout the month. Other names are Sweet Marta, Son de la Rambla, Abby Rubens and The Massive Brothers Band and Bian O'Mahony. You can check the programme and get the tickets through this link.
