Skatalà in their 2019 concert at Razzmatazz

Skatalà is getting back together to welcome the new year

The band will share the stage with the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble in a concert on New Year's at Razzmatazz.

On New Year's 2022, there will be more than only waltzes in Vienna. If you go to Sala Razzmatazz at sunset, you can listen and dance to the ska of one of the pioneers of this genre in the city, Skatalà. The band was born in 1985 and after delaying its appearances on stage for a long time, they will be back for a concert for the first time since December 2019. In that last concert, which was also in Razzmatazz, they gave an electric performance that was supposed to be the start of a new tour; however, the pandemic ruined all plans. Now, they're back with the same intentions. So this concert, on 1 January, will be to welcome the new year and celebrate the start of the band's tour. Skatalà is formed by Pitu Moregó and Quique Gallart on vocals (the only two members who have been with the band since the beginning), Iñaki Álvarez on bass, Jordi Asensio and Jordi Manyà on guitar, Javier Peña on drums, Jordi Prat on alto sax, Pablo Quiroga on keyboards and Pere Miró on tenor sax.

However, Skatalà won't be the only important character of the evening. The band will share the stage with New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, a band from the American city that shines, as its name suggests, by fusing ska and jazz. They have been playing since 1995 and are used to touring around the European continent. Critics say they are one of the most influential groups in the revival of traditional Jamaican sounds.

Music will start playing at 7.30 p.m., but the doors will open half an hour before. The event is part of the Rude Cat Jamaican Sounds Festival 2022. For more information and tickets, check this link.
