Conferences concerning the future of Europe

From the 30th of September to the 4th of November a series of conference will offer a cross-sector analysis of the European Union from a variety of perspectives

On a weekly basis from the 30th of September to the 4th of November in the CaixaForum the Ernest Lluch Foundation will be offering a series of conferences designed to promote dialog relating to the concept of quality within the European democratic system and to pose wider-ranging questions about the future of Europe.

The conferences will offer an analysis of the entire process required for the initial construction of the framework for the European Union up to the current situation marked by the debt crisis, failures and possible secessions; positive discussions providing an approach to innovation and productivity in relation to the sustainability of the current welfare model.

The objective is to offer proposals for possible institutional reforms designed to arrive at a revised concept of the Union, the single currency system and the concept of European citizenship and the corresponding legal aspects, and also to examine the role of Europe within a universal context.

Invitees include economists, legal experts and professionals with ties to the European Parliament and to research centres in a variety of disciplines. Many of the guests are former high-ranking officials in key organisations such as the Central European Bank and the European Commission and who are now in a position to provide an external perspective. Others are names that are well known among the general public, such as Pedro Solbes, the former minister and European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and Josep Piqué, the former Minister for Foreign Affairs.
