Maika Makovski

A whole month of musical dialogues at Sala Apolo

The Connexions Festival, an initiative by Taller de Músics, is back with concerts in which local musicians investigate new sounds.

The name of the Connexions Festival was not chosen by chance. At its very conception, the people at Taller de Músics aimed to take their philosophy of music a step further and, instead of promoting their own musical language, in which modern black sounds collided with flamenco roots music, they decided to give a platform to consolidated artists who were resident in Barcelona to get them out of their comfort zones. The idea worked, and is now back for another edition from 5 to 31 October with a series of 14 concerts at Sala Apolo and Taller de Músics 24.

These concerts will take two different formats: artists who take to the stage to investigate other musical languages and collaborations between creators from different fields. The opening concert, which is scheduled for 5 October at Sala Apolo, features Maika Makovski, who will be presenting her new show ‘CarMenKa’, in which she will merge her visceral rock sounds with folk music. But the festival will be making other connections between musicians, such as Rocío Márquez and Fahmi Alqhai at Sala Apolo on 6 October and Mazoni and the Istambul Street Ensemble, also at Sala Apolo, on 8 October: mixtures of pop-fol, flamenco and Arab music. Other artists on the programme include Raúl Rodríguez, Alfred García, Danae & Golo, Javier Ruibal, Marala, Infiesta, Júlia Colom, The Gramophone Allstars Big Band and Young Effervescence Big Band.
