‘The tales of Hoffmann’ at the Gran Teatre del Liceu until February 1

John Osborn takes the stage at the Liceu

Between January 18 and February 1, the Gran Teatre del Liceu hosts Offenbach’s opera ‘The tales of Hoffmann’.

The tales of Hoffmann or the impossibility of being loved. This great opera by the composer Jaques Offenbach arrives at the Gran Teatre del Liceu after eight years of its last performance on this stage. This time it is led by tenor John Osborn, soprano Ermonela Jaho and bassist Alexander Vinogradov, conducted by master Riccardo Frizza. Laurent Pelly is in charge of the stage direction of this production, a beautiful but also sinister work that captures the two sides of Romanticism: a dark story and its magical side. The opera will premiere on Monday, January 18 and will run almost every day until Monday, February 1.

This work by Offenbach, unfinished due to the composer's death, was his great opera after his vast production of operettas, a genre to which he contributed in his early days. In The tales of Hoffmann, Offenbach creates his own rules, mixing fantastic, sentimental, satirical and grotesque elements, to show the past love story of the poet E.T.A. Hoffmann and his inability to be loved.

Opera sessions will take place at 6:30 pm, except for Sunday the 31st, which will be at 5 pm. You can now buy your tickets on the website for prices ranging from 18 to 290 euros. Information on the opera, such as the hand program or a playlist, can be found in the Liceu’s virtual kiosk.
