Coses kick off the series "La cançó nua" (The New Song)

The mythical band from the "transició" begins Saturday 18 January a Catalan Song Cycle in Born Cultural Center

La cançó nua is the title of a series which has been programmed with the idea of recapturing the Nova Cançó (The New Song) of the sixties and the bands that have remained true to the genre up to the present day. The series will include a number of concerts with minimum musical accompaniment and in which proximity between performer and audience is a key factor.

The series kicks off on Saturday the 18th of January at 9 pm in the Moragas hall of the Born Centre Cultural with a performance by Coses, one of the most emblematic bands of a period in which traditional popular Catalan protest songs began to give way to rock music. Thirty-five years after the dissolution of the band, the formation consisting of Miquel Estrada, Jordi Fàbregas y Tòn Rulló, accompanied by Juantxe Aguiar (violin and mandolin), will interpret a retrospective of their 1976 to 1978 repertoire which included their three official recordings, Via Fora!, Ara és demà and Perquè no s’apagui l’aire.

The aim of the La cançó nua series is to rediscover some of the band formations who defined the landscape of the Nova Cançó, a key cultural element in the creation of a genre and in the dissemination of the works of a number of Catalan poets.

All the recitals will be preceded by an intervention by the series coordinator explaining the context of the artist in question within the history of popular music sung in Catalan.
