A cultural soirée with La Nit dels Museus (Museum Night)

Another edition of the museum open day will be held on Saturday the 18th of May and includes a programme of special events

In order to coincide with International Museum Day, sixty two spaces in Barcelona and the metropolitan area (Esplugues, Badalona, Cornellà and Hospitalet) will be offering extended opening hours on Saturday the 18th of May, in the frame of  La Nit dels Museus. Entry is free from 7 pm to 1 am and, apart from visits to the museums, will include programmed events such as music, dance, pre-arranged visits and activities designed for all the family.

La Nit proposes 6 different routes designed on the basis of proximity of the museums. Among the programmed activities are:

The DHUB, the new headquarters of the Barcelona Design Museum, will be presenting their virtual cube installation as well as a display of tracker robots. The evening will also include the inauguration of BruumRumm!, an interactive luminous graphics installation, in the adjoining square. One of the novelties this year is the inclusion of the Museu del Barça in the list of participating museums.

In Montjuïc, visitors may attend a curious exhibition of Roman hairstyling in the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya and participate in free dance workshops in the Museu de les Arts Escèniques del Institut del Teatre.

The Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc will be offering another type of workshop which includes sketching sessions accompanied by folk music. Close by, in the CCCB, there will be an oral poetry competition, the Poetry Slam Barcelona, while the MACBA will be hosting a marathon of guided visits and installing a pop-up bar/terrace on the museum’s terrace. The MUHBA will be organising a choice of visits to different museum spaces around the city, such as the Refugi 307.

In addition there will be a series of concerts, such as those hosted by the Monasterio de Pedralbes under the direction of the ESMUC, or the Taller de Músics (Musicians Workshop) in the Sala Oval of the MNAC, as well as performances, including the Les Salonnières group in the MACBA or magic in the theatre-museum El Rey de la Magia.

Between the 14th and the 19th there will be a photography competition in which participants may win two tickets to any of the museums. Prior inscription is required in www.bcn.cat/fotomobil.

La Nit 2.0 allows users to follow all the evening’s events via the social networks and to download an app for their mobile phone.

La Nit dels Museus is an initiative of the European Council and unites over 3000 museums in 40 countries. More than 126,000 people took part in the event last year in Barcelona.
