Luz de Gas reopens with a cycle of concerts against sexist violence

Maria del Mar Bonet, Sara Roy, Mayte Martín, Balkan Paradise Orchestra, Elena Gadel & Marta Robles, Beth and Gemma Humet will perform.

Seven concerts starring women artists to sing loudly Som Aquí (Here We Are) and say enough to sexist violence. A cycle that will also serve to reopen, even for a few weeks, one of the emblematic places in Barcelona, Luz de Gas. The initiative aims to support women who are victims of gender-based violence, and especially those who have suffered it in the last year, as the Institut Català de les Dones (Catalan Institute of Women) points out that in the weeks of lockdown phone calls to victim care increased by 75%.

The first of the recitals will take place on March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day. It will be by Maria del Mar Bonet, who has prepared, with pianist Dani Espasa, a special show for the occasion. Three days later, Sara Roy will perform at Luz de Gas, a former member of the group Macedònia now with a solo project. Mayte Martín accompanied by her musicians will fill the room with her voice on March 12, and six days later it will be the turn of the Balkan Paradise Orchestra. Elena Gadel and Marta Robles will premiere Les dones de la meva vida on the 20th, a proposal that, in the words of its protagonists, “is born of the need to give a spotlight to so many women who have enlightened us the path”. The last two performances will be for Beth (March 24), who will present new songs after years of record silence, and for Gemma Humet (March 25), with a recent album under her arm, Màtria, precisely full of lyrics in favour of women’s struggles and demands.
