Best independent and art films of the year at D’A Film Festival

World-renowned directors visit to present their work.

Ask any film-lover in Barcelona if they've heard of the D’A Film Festival and be shocked if they say no. It is one of the most influential independent and art film festivals in the country, with one of the best selections of films. Just one year short of a decade, though it seems we are already celebrating this anniversary: 114 films, 86 of which have never been seen before in Catalonia. Plus, 45 film directors will be participating in the festival, including renowned names such as Louis Garrel (with A Faithful Maninaugurating this year's D’A), Carlos Marqués-Marcet (closing the festival with The Days to Come), Andrés Duque and Richard Billingham. It is one of the best showcases for the top films from festivals around the world and a great opportunity to get to know emerging talent everyone will recognise a few years from now. The festival has several categories, some of which are Direccions (with the 18 best films of the year), Talents (with films from new filmmakers), a retrospective on Christophe Honoré, and Sala Jove (with a selection of films for young people).

In addition to the screenings, the programme also includes Professional Activities, with sessions to help filmmakers develop their projects, and two concerts featuring Refree and Baiuca. D’A Film Festival is on from 25 April to 5 May at various times. The activities will take place in several locations: Cinemes Aribau, CCCB, Fimoteca de Catalunya, Zumzeig and SGAE Catalunya.

Tickets are available online for €7 each session. You can get them on the festival website.
