A summer cycle of contemporary dance

The Sala Versus Glòries is hosting four shows this month.

In July, four dance companies will show their works at the Sala Versus Glòries.

Suicide is a very serious subject, and more often than not, the different artistic disciplines don't deal with it as they should. Sextante (from 6 to 10 July) takes a rigorous approach to this issue. It does so by proposing a journey in which we adopt the point of view of a person who wants to take their own life by throwing themself into the sea. The show, by the Eyan Dance Company, metaphorically connects the depth of the ocean with the unfathomable mind of a person with suicidal tendencies. Through dance, emotions such as depression, anxiety or guilt are transmitted. It also stands out for its aesthetics and fantastic make-up. Tickets can be purchased at this link.

L.E.V.E [a light and easy vanishing event] by the Siberia Company (from 12 to 17 July) is a piece about our body and the lightness and tensions that the inevitable passage of time causes in it. The work is presented in three parts. In the first, the choreographer shows the body as an exhibitive element, seeking its maximum expression. In the second part, the body behaves as if the subject is hallucinating. And finally, in the third one, it becomes heavy and sweaty again and fragile and tired. Tickets can be bought through this link.

From 20 to 24 July, the company Humacía presents Ego, a contemporary dance piece that aims to stir consciences by reflecting on how today's society is profoundly selfish and individualistic. The play reflects on pride, how we go through life without paying attention to what we have around us and how we seek to stand out from others while being completely insensitive to what is happening around us. But the final message is optimistic: In the end, the man opens his eyes and, collaboratively and cooperatively, looks to live in a better world. Tickets for this show are now on sale.

Finally, Guie' Biaani' by the LaVal Creación Escénica Company (from 27 to 31 July) is a piece that, from the perspective of gender, seeks to build intercultural bridges. Love is the central element that unites mothers, sisters, daughters and friends. They are feminine stories in which the body, the breath, serves as a guide and communication between the internal and external elements of the collective body. But it is the sonority that accompanies us, a murmur, that unites all the women exhibited in this work. Tickets can be bought at this website.
