The days Einstein spent in Barcelona

Follow, with the recommendations of Visit Barcelona, the route that the German physicist and mathematician took during his stay in the city.

Barcelona has captured the attention of many places around the world for some time now, and is also the destination of choice for international travellers. But before the current tourist boom, some illustrious personalities had already decided to visit the Catalan capital. One of them was Albert Einstein. The German physicist and mathematician spent six days in the city in 1923 and, thanks to the expectation that this generated, you have the opportunity to follow the Einstein trail where you will discover the itinerary he followed, the buildings he visited and even where he had dinner during one of his emblematic nights in Catalonia.

Esteve Terrades, a renowned Catalan physicist, formally invited him to Barcelona to give scientific lectures on his theories. After his famous Japanese tour, the German physicist communicated by telegram that he was approaching the city, without specifying the day or time of arrival. Consequently, the first stop on this scientific route is the Station of France, as he opted for the train as a means of transport.

During his visit, he gave several talks at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and at the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, which marked a very important moment for science in the city. He also attended the Escola Industrial de Barcelona, where he was presented with two records of popular Catalan music and attended a sardana copla performance. In his leisure time, Einstein visited Barcelona City Hall, dined at the Hotel Ritz with various political and scientific personalities and, as a personal request, asked for a visit to the Port Vell, where he canoed in the waters near the dry dock.

Take the opportunity to discover the route Albert Einstein took during his six days in the city and discover the modernist architecture and urban planning that the scientist visited in Barcelona. More information on this link.
