“De Niro Chronicles”, in the Cinemes Girona

Robert De Niro stars in a new edition of “Phenomena Experience”, which runs from the 21st to the 28th of February and which includes “The Godfather Part II”, “Once Upon a Time in America” and “Goodfellas”

Robert De Niro, one of the finest actors in the history of film, is the star of a series of three films which will be showing this month in the Cinemes Girona under the title, De Niro Chronicles, and as part of a series known as “Phenomena Experience”, a programme which, for the last three years, has been dedicated to rediscovering classic films and bringing them to popular cinemas throughout the city. On this occasion, The Godfather Part II, Once Upon a Time in America and Goodfellas can be seen in original version with Spanish subtitles between the 21st and 28th of February.

The Godfather Part II (Friday, the 21st at 9 pm) earned De Niro an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Francis Ford Coppola’s film from 1974 continues the Corleone saga with two parallel stories: the nomination of Michael Corleone as head of the family business, and the origins of the patriarch, Don Vito, in Sicily and the USA.

Once Upon a Time in America, by Sergio Leone, is another seminal film starring Robert De Niro and is set in Manhattan at the beginning of the 20th century. The film tells of the friendship between two young Jewish boys who end up founding one of the most notorious organised crime organisations of the Prohibition era. The four-hour, original version will be shown on Sunday the 23rd at 6.30 pm.

The series winds up on Friday the 28th at 9 pm with Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece, Goodfellas, from 1990, which tells the story of a thirteen-year-old boy who decides to quit school to be a messenger boy in one of New York’s most dangerous organised crime rings.
