“Deletrix”, in the Arts Santa Mònica

Deletrix (a Latin word denoting “destruction”) is the title chosen by Joan Fontcuberta for his exhibition on censorship, which finally sees the light after six years of dedication. The exhibition is a series of examples of censored texts by a various authors from various periods which Fontcuberta has accumulated through visit to libraries and archives throughout Europe and North America.

With the collaboration of art critic Manal Guerrero, the renowned photographer attempts to demonstrate the force with which the lack of freedom of expression has been explicitly imprinted in the written word. Thanks to the intervention of PEN Català, the exhibition is accompanied by written reflections on censorship by internationally renowned authors and the union of text and image results in a conducive dialog between graphic testimony and the written word.

The idea is for the project to be presented in a number of locations throughout the world within a framework of notable literary events and the exhibition is complemented by a large-format book containing literary and artistic references relating to the subject in question. Deletrix can be seen, free of charge, in the Espai Balcó section of the Arts Santa Mònica up until the 8th of December.
