Do you want to visit ALBA?

On Saturday November 16 the ALBA Synchrotron will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM on an open day

The ALBA Synchrotron celebrates its 2nd Open Day on Saturday 16 November 2013, coinciding with the Science Week. From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, technicians and scientists themselves will explain to visitors what is a synchrotron, how it works and what it does. The visit includes a tour through the facility and activities for all ages.

ALBA is a third generation Synchrotron Light Facility. It is constructed and operated by the CELLS consortium and is co-financed by the Catalan and Spanish governments. It is located in Cerdanyola del Vallès, near Barcelona. In operation since 2012, it currently has seven lines of experiments investigating applications in life sciences, medicine, materials science, environmental sciences, physics or chemistry. This unique scientific infrastructure is available to the scientific community and the business sector with the capacity to serve more than a thousand researchers each year. The tours are free and can only be made on days they do not perform research activities. They last an hour and 15 minutes and are done in groups of 30 people.

The activity allows visitors to walk around the facilities and learn about the different beamlines of the synchrotron and equipment in areas such as biology, materials science, physics and environmental science, among others. The tours are open to any group (students, associations, families ...), but are not recommended for children under 14 (including family visits).

Guided tours scheduled for 2013 have already sold out seats. The calendar of visits for 2014 will be opened in short. If you are interested in visiting the synchrotron, send an email to visitas@cells.es (note name, phone, and number of people)
