The photobook is many people’s favourite way of looking at photos

A dual venue exhibition on the photobook phenomenon

Hosts are the Centre de Cultura Contemporània and Foto Colectania, in its new headquarters.

The Foto Colectania Foundation and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) have joined forces to present a new exhibition titled Photobook Phenomenon. Both venues will be open to the public on 17 March, and the exhibition will be at Colectania until 25 June and at CCCB until 27 August. The official opening is scheduled for 6.30pm at CCCB and 8pm at Colectania.

One of the unique aspects of the exhibition is the fact that it is being curated by nine different curators from around the world, with Moritz Neumüller as the project’s executive curator. It aims to trace the history of the photobook from its origins to now. Photobooks have been used by their creators to display not only their photographs but also as the perfect place for experimentation and creativity. There has also been a growing interest in reinterpreting the history of photography through the historical role of the photobook and the printed photograph, as has been demonstrated by a number of ambitious studies and projects. The exhibition is divided into seven areas, six of which are at CCCB and one of which is at Foto Colectania, at its new building at number 14 Passeig de Picasso.

Guided visits and conferences are among the parallel activities planned for this dual exhibition, which already features some 500 photobooks with a variety of contents.

Additional information is available from the CCCB and the Foto Colectania websites.
