A new cycle of concerts invites us to ‘connect with early music’

The museum and department of early music at ESMUC are organizing the three sessions that make up the first edition of the cycle.

Purcell, Telemann and Renaissance music will be the stars of the first edition of Connect with Early Music. The cycle is an initiative of the Museum and Department of Early Music at the ESMUC higher education school of music and will start on 7 April with three sessions. The concerts will take place in the Keyboard Room of the museum on the afternoon of the first Saturday of the month, and to attend you only have to buy a ticket to access the museum. Therefore, this is an excellent opportunity to visit the museum and enjoy live music at the same time!

The promoters of the cycle describe these sessions as "hieroglyphs of the history of music that are resolved by touching, singing and improvising, in a creative fantasy that imagines the sounds of the past to recreate the new sounds of the present". We shouldn’t, therefore, expect just a regular concert series. Alba Roca will be in charge of the first session, which will be based on the Baroque semi-opera The Fairy-Queen by Henry Purcell. On 5 May, Manfredo Kraemer will be conducting Water Music by Georg Philipp Telemann. And finally, on 2 June, the Consort of Violas da Gamba and the Wind Consort of the ESMUC will take to the stage to perform Renaissance compositions, directed by Emmanuel Balssa and Lluís Coll.
