“EFE: 75 Years in Photos”, in the Palau Robert

The EFE Agency celebrates its 75th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of its service in Catalan with an exhibition that looks back on part of the historic memory of Catalonia and the Spanish nation

Up until the 18th of May the gardens of the Palau Robert in Barcelona are hosting an exhibition entitled EFE: 75 Years in Photos in honour of the 75th anniversary of the EFE Agency and the 25th anniversary of the agency’s service in Catalan. The exhibition takes a global perspective on part of the historic memory of Catalonia and the Spanish nation in 75 photographs by photojournalists of the renowned news agency.

The photos (25 from Catalonia and 50 from the rest of Spain) correspond mainly to the period from 1939 to 2014 and include perspectives on political, social and cultural life, etc. The photos relating to Catalonia include political and social portraits of events such as the departure towards exile in Paris of the president of the Catalan government, Lluís Companys, the return of Josep Tarradellas, or the Vía Catalana (Catalan Way) human chain of the 11th of September, 2013, as well as others leaning more towards cultural, entertainment or sporting events such as the presence of The Beatles in Barcelona or the Olympic Games of 1992.

The travelling exhibition also depicts historic moments in Spanish history such as the Pacts of Moncloa, Spain’s entry into the EEC and prizewinning EFE photos of the events of the night of the 23rd of February, 1981.
