“Els arquitectes del No-res” (The architects of Nothingness), in the Santa Victoria Pavilion
The modernist venue in Sant Pau is hosting an exhibition organised by Casa Asia of a selection of Japanese architects whose work is based around the concept of nothingness
The exhibition entitled Els arquitectes del No-res (The architects of Nothingness) can be seen in the Santa Victoria pavilion up until the 17th of April. The exhibition has been curated by Joan Ramon Pascuets (Narch studios) and Ignacion Ontiveros, and presents a selection of contemporary Japanese architectural projects based on the constructive possibilities of empty space.
The works of the twelve selected architects, who include Toyo Ita (one of the fathers of contemporary Japanese architecture), Shigeru Ban, Shinichi Ogawa, the SANAA firm or the young architect, Junya Ishigami, are particularly concerned with the relationship between architecture and the people who inhabit it. ‘Nothingness’ is considered not as a negation but rather as a natural occurrence, and the architects make use of emptiness, silence, abstraction and fragility to bestow their projects with significance in relation to their surroundings.
The exhibition includes videos or more than twenty projects which are complemented with original plans and urban furniture designed by the selected Studios as well as a model of the Paper Pavilion inaugurated in Madrid by Shigeru Ban in March, 2013.
The exhibition has been organised by Casa Asia in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and is part of the programme of activities for the Dual Year - Spain in Japan and Japan in Spain. Entry is free.
