The evolution of the Avinguda Diagonal

The MUHBA has organised a route along the Eastern stretch of the Avinguda Diagonal, one of the backbones of the Sant Martí district

Stretching for 11 kilometres from Les Corts to the Parc del Fòrum, the Avinguda Diagonal has evolved over time into one of the city’s main arteries. Conceived by town planner Ildefons Cerdà around the middle of the 19th century, the avenue intersects with some of the city’s other important thoroughfares such as the Passeig de Gràcia and the Passeig de Sant Joan.

On the 14th of April and the 26th of May, MUHBA has proposed a route through the part of the Avinguda where most changes have taken place in recent years, the Eastern section. The route will reveal some of the urban and architectural curiosities to be found between the Plaça de les Glòries and Diagonal Mar. Prior inscription is required.

The tour, titled Barcelona en Diagonal, tram de llevant, emphasises aspects such as the functional and social metamorphosis resulting from the 22@ project in the Poblenou district, the urban renovation of the Diagonal Mar area, or the significant changes that have taken place since the Universal Forum of Cultures nine years ago.

Barcelona Culture users may avail of a 2x1 entry fee of 8.45€ for the Barcelona en Diagonal, tram de llevant tour on the 14th of April between 10 am and 2 pm. The meeting point is Diagonal, 269-275 (Escola Ramón Llull). More information here
