Exclusive and unique

The Museu de la Moto de Barcelona is hosting a temporary exhibition of twenty prototypes, all of which are extraordinary in their own way

The twenty motorcycles which have been on display since last September and can be seen up to September 2014 in the Museu de la Moto de Barcelona are exclusive, unique and extraordinary pieces which were constructed for a variety of unusual purposes and are either on loan from collectors, constructors or proprietary businesses or are part to the museum’s collection.

The reasons for the extraordinary nature of these exclusive, unique motorcycles are multifarious and, for this reason, the exhibition has been divided into four sections.

The first section includes motorcycles that were constructed purely for their spectacular nature or due to a desire for innovation, such as the remodelled 1956 Harley Davidson with which Ferry Clot won the world title in South Dakota in 2009.

The second section brings together motorcycles that are considered ‘matchless’, such as the Mymsa Experimental of 1955 or the Bultaco Cazarecords (Record breaker) of 1960.

The third section includes vehicles designed for minority sporting disciplines (Speedway, Ice Racing, Side Trial, Motoball...) that are only practised in a few countries, if they continue to be practised at all.

And finally there are the urban motorcycles, with models such as the Montesa Fura or the Bultaco Gaviota, a unique prototype which Francisco Xavier Bultó, the founder of Bultaco, built especially for his daughter so that she could safely drive around Barcelona.

The exhibition, which combines technical genius and creative intelligence, can be visited in the ground floor of the former Sant Felip Neri convent which, in its day, was the oratory of Gaudí.

Freedom and imagination on two wheels.
