‘Sex in Roman Times’

Sex and the ancient Romans

An exhibition at the National Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia lifts the veil on this little-known facet of ancient Roman life.

Was the sex life of ancient Romans very different to ours? That’s the question that the National Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia seeks to address in the exhibition 'Sex in Roman Times'. In the exhibition, more than 80 exhibits will allow visitors to discover the role played by prostitution, adultery, heterosexuality and homosexuality in ancient Roman society and the morality that held sway at the time. During the visit, exhibition goers will also benefit from the context provided by the works of writers such as Ovid, Seneca, Plautus and Suetonius.

The exhibition can be seen from 21 June to 2 September. Free guided tours are available on Sundays though places are limited.

General admission costs €5.50 and tickets can be purchased at the museum’s ticket offices. Additional information is available at the following link.
