Feliu Ventura, in the Born Centre Cultural

With his performance on the 19th of July, the singer-songwriter from Xàtiva will close the cycle of Catalan music, “La cançó nua”

Commissioned by music critic Xevi Planas, the Catalan music cycle La cançó nua (The New Song) has brought artists the likes of Pere Tàpias, Jordi Batiste, Josep Tero, Biel Majoral and the band Coses to the Born Centre Cultural. Throughout the series of recitals the artists have performed with a minimum of musical accompaniment in an attempt to foster closer connection with the audiences.

On Saturday the 19th of July, Feliu Ventura will put the final touch to the series with a concert that will also serve as a celebration of his twenty years as a performing artist. Born in Xàtiva, he grew up listening to renowned figures in the “cançó catalana” (Catalan song) genre, such as Raimon, Ovidi Montllor and Lluís Llach as well as Latin American voices the likes of Víctor Jara and Sílvio Rodríguez.

A student of Catalan philology, Ventura published his first recording, Estels de tela, in 2000. When his second release, Barricades de paper, came out in 2003, Lluís Llach proposed a joint tour, an event which later gave rise to Que no s’apague la llum (2005), followed by Alfabets de futur (2006), Música i lletra (2011) and the more recent live recording Vers l’infinit (2013).

In the Born Centre Cultural, Ventura will perform with the sole accompaniment of his guitar and the repertoire will include songs from throughout his career as well as a selection of cover versions, such as those that appear on his latest release, Referents (2014).

Feliu Ventura will perform in the Sala Moragues of the Born Centre Cultural on Saturday the 19th of July at 9 pm. Tickets are priced at 5 euros and may be purchased here.
