Girl Power

MNAC pays homage to graffiti by girls

The museum's programme, which also includes film screenings, features the documentary 'Girl Power' on female graffiti artists.

Film is an art form. That’s beyond doubt. But what about graffiti? Well, it’s obvious that one must distinguish between the mindless scribbles that appear regularly on trains and walls in the urban environment, and which can perhaps rightfully be considered to be a kind of vandalism, and high quality murals that can equally rightfully be considered to be a form of urban art. Another question is whether it’s an exclusively male form of expression, and Barcelona’s MNAC art museum aims to respond to both of those imponderables with the screening of a documentary titled Girl Power, which follows 15 female graffiti artists in cities around the world as they write their graffiti.

The screening of the film, which was directed by Jan Zajícek and Sany, will take place at 7pm on 24 March in the Sala Oval at MNAC and admission is free. This screening is part of a programme developed in collaboration with the Filmoteca film institute to underline the links between cinema and art and to highlight the work of female creators.
