The film “Catalunya-España” will inaugurate the new edition of the “Cinema Català en projecció” (Catalan cinema on show)

The programme includes Mercado de futuros, Al fossat and Món petit

Cinema Català en Projecció returns to La Pradera with a collection of documentaries recently produced in our country. Catalan cinema production has been on the increase over the past decade and, as far as recognition is concerned, documentaries are one of its strong points.

Cataluña-Espanya, directed by Isona Passola, producer of one of Catalan cinema’s biggest hits in recent years, Pa Negre, will be the first film to be shown. Filmed in 2009, and inspired by the experience of Julio Medem with La Pelota Vasca, the director brought together a number of renowned voices in an open dialog on the historic relationship between Catalonia and Spain. Four years after its premiere, the content of the documentary is as pertinent today as it was on the day of its release.

The cycle continues with Mercado de Futuros, by Mercedes Álvarez, a film which analysis the life of objects while wondering if memory will be a requirement in the future. With this in mind the director infiltrates events such as the abandonment and demolition of an old house, a business leadership conference or a real estate trade fair, camera in hand.

Al Fossat, directed by Ricardo Iscar, who was a nominee in the recent edition of the Gaudí awards, is a documentary about musicians from the orchestra of the Gran Teatro del Liceu opera house and their lives and work, fears and passions.

Cinema català en projecció closes on the 15th of April with a screening of Mon Petit, a film by Marcel Barrena about the life of Albert Casals. The film provides us with a closer look at the story of this young man who has realised his dream of travelling the world despite being confined to a wheelchair since he was five years old.
