Film & Cook – A Festival of Gastronomy and Film

From the 21st to the 24th of November, the Aribau Club cinemas will host the 3rd edition of an event which combines cinema screenings with live cookery sessions

The Festival of Gastronomy and Film, Film & Cook, returns for the third time to Barcelona with a programme that combines screenings of cuisine-oriented films with live presentations and exhibitions by chefs, among other activities.

On this occasion the Aribau Club cinemas will be hosting the festival, which will take place from the 21st to the 24th of November. The official inauguration will include the projection of the documentary, Make Hummus Not War, which deals with the attempts to forge peace in the Middle East and which will be presented by distinguished and renowned chef, Jordi Cruz, who will also offer an cookery exhibition.

Among other films that will be shown for the first time, highlights include the Swedish romantic comedy Love and Lemons, the Japanese documentary Drops of Heaven, which deals with the recipe for Soup of Life of 88-year-old Japanese culinary artist Yoshiko Tatsumi, and Rawer, a controversial Dutch documentary dealing with the legal consequences for a mother who only fed her son raw fruit and vegetables.

There will also be time for classic films such as Casablanca, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Gold Rush and Like Water for Chocolate, which will be accompanied by cocktails at the hands of the best bar tenders in the region. The Roger Gual comedy, Tasting Menu, will also be shown.

Quique Dacosta, Ramon Freixa, Albert Adrià and Rodrigo de la Calle are some of the chefs (all of whom possess at least one Michelin star) who will be offering conferences and/or preparing dishes inspired by the films being shown.

The awards ceremony will take place on the final day of the festival and will include the documentary El Somni (recognised as the foremost gastronomic experience of the year), made by Franc Aleu with the collaboration of El Celler de Can Roca.
