Rita Hayworth in 'Gilda'

‘Gilda’ to open a cycle at the Filmoteca devoted to Rita Hayworth

Throughout September the films what will be screened include 'The Lady from Shanghai', 'Salome' and 'Only Angels Have Wings'.

Margarita Carmen Cansino, better known to the world as Rita Hayworth, was born almost 100 years ago, on 17 October 1918. Barcelona’s Filmoteca film library is leading the inevitable wave of tributes with a cycle scheduled for September featuring some of the top titles starring an actress considered to be the most glamorous screen idol of the 1940s.

The cycle Rita Hayworth: Gilda per als mitòmans, will kick off at 7pm on 1 September with Gilda, a fan favourite that was directed by Charles Vidor in 1946. Gilda will return to the screens of the Filmoteca at 9.30pm the following day. Also to be screened on the opening day of the cycle, though later in the evening, is The Strawberry Blonde, while 2 and 4 September will see the screening of a critical favourite: The Lady from Shanghai. The other films in the cycle are Rouben Mamoulian’s Blood and Sand, Cover Girl, You Were Never Lovelier, Salome, Miss Sadie Thompson, Pal Joey, Separate Tables, The Loves of Carmen and Only Angels Have Wings.
