The cycle will feature a total of six films
Michael Cimino and Gene Wilder, two key figures in film history who, in one way or another, marked a turning point in the genre, are the focus of the In Memoriam cycle at the Filmoteca de Catalunya from l to 13 January 2017.
Cimino, who directed films like The Deer Hunter and Year of the Dragon, was an innovative figure: a great screenplay writer and director who questioned the official discourse about the history of his country and aimed to change the film industry. Wilde, on the other hand, was also a dreamer – an actor with an unlikely physique who became a modern comic and an icon of Jewish-American comedy. Who hasn’t laughed helplessly at the adventures of his Young Frankenstein?
The cycle at the Filmoteca de Catalunya features the following films: The Deer Hunter, Heaven's Gate, The Year of the Dragon, Young Frankenstein and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. It’s a fine tribute to two of the great names in film history.
