“Germans de sang” (Blood Brothers), in the Teatre Raval

The legendary London West End musical returns to Barcelona and can be seen up until the 19th of February in a version that includes an on-stage piano

Blood Brothers is one of the most successful musicals in the history of London’s West End. Written, composed and directed by Will Russell in 1983 to little notoriety, over time it has become a popular success that has been performed as far away as Broadway, Australia, Japan and South Africa.

The musical tells the tale of twin brothers, Mickey and Edward, who were once separated and then reunited by fate. When she is abandoned by her husband and cannot make ends meet, Mrs Johnstone, a mother of seven, gives one of the twins to Mrs Lyons, under the promise never to tell a soul. Time passes, however, and one day the twins meet and strike up a firm friendship, causing a situation which leads to an unexpectedly emotional and tragic end.

The Catalan adaptation by Albert Mas-Griera previously played in theatres throughout Catalonia in 1994 to critical and public acclaim and the production being represented on the stage of the Teatre Raval under the direction of Ricard Reguant includes part of the same team. The original actors, Roger Pera, Sergi Zamora and Eduard Doncos are joined by Virginia Martínez in the role of Mrs Johnstone. Musical direction is by Dani Campos.

Dress rehearsals for the new production of Blood Brothers can be seen on the 10th, 11th and 12th of January. The musical itself opens in the Teatre Raval on the 16th and will be playing up until the 19th of February.
