The Göteborgsoperans Danskompani at Mercat de les Flors

The company will perform Marina Mascarell’s 'Mongrel'

Valencian choreographer Marina Mascarell (1980) has created pieces for some of the most innovative and experimental companies working today. She has steadily consolidate her career with pieces like the one we can see at Mercat de les Flors this week. Mongrel is a choreography in which Mascarell examines Scandinavian society from different standpoints. She does so on the basis of the Law of Jante, a social manifesto that advocates equality and justice but possesses extraordinary underlying levels of conformity and consensus, an almost asphyxiating homogeneity.

Marina Mascarell (1980) has danced with Nederlands Dans Theater I and II and the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Since 2011 she has worked as a freelance choreographer and created pieces for companies such as Nederlands Dans Theater I, Scapino Ballet and Dance Forum Taipei besides being resident choreographer at the Korzo Theater in Holland. Her career has made extraordinary progress since she was selected for Choreoroam, the EU research project, in 2012. She currently works all over the world.
