Three weeks of experimental music

The 27th edition of the LEM festival expands its stages and offers concerts by Veus Lliures, Joan Bagés and Macromassa, among others.

The Encontre Internacional de Música Experimental (LEM) in Gràcia-Barcelona will take place in eight venues in the neighbourhood and the rest of the city in 16 events from 6 to 29 October. The festival, organised by the Gràcia Territori Sonor association, is celebrating its 27th edition. In addition to the organisation's headquarters and classic venues such as the civic centre La Sedeta and the Convent de Sant Agustí, the Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius (CAT) and the Casa Almirall bar, this year, the cycle will stop at the church of Sant Joan de Gràcia, the Ateneu El Poblet and the Museu de la Música at L'Auditori.

The Gràcia Territori Sonor venue will host the usual Encontres en l’Espai-Temps, the pairing of artists from different disciplines who will perform improvisation sessions; a synthesiser construction workshop,  and the exhibition Summoners, by the Barcelona photographer Joan Teixidor, with images from the Kill Town Death Fest and the Helsinki Death Fest.

The Dispositiu LEM will start on the 6th with the electronic connection Catalonia-Argentina Trackatlántica multimedia by Jordi Heras Fauque and Gabriel Pereira Spurr. On the 8th, there will be a double concert by Veus Lliures — the first collective of female vocal improvisers in Spain made up of some of the most important singers in the country — and the first session of Teranyines, an initiative of the festival that has brought together musicians and dancers (Laura del Vecchio and Anna GarciaAlpha Decay and Marlène Jobstl, and Linalab and Ona Juan).

On the 14th, the Orchestra Fireluche will present Segona florada, the last album they recorded with Pau Riba. The band, which has two decades of experience, combines classical and culturally diverse instruments with toy pianos and other curious gadgets in the vein of Pascal Comelade.

On the 15th, the electro-acoustic creator Joan Bagés will give a concert entitled Discontínium Energètic for different types of organs, one of them made of cardboard, in which he will review the work of several composers.

As per usual, the Dispositiu LEM will have a broad international representation thanks to the exchanges with other similar European festivals. On the 13th, there will be a joint session by artists S A R R A M and Stahlfabrik, in collaboration with the Signal Festival in Sardinia and Morada Sónica in Andalusia, and on the 13th, Radio Internazionale, the result of the relationship with Intermediale in Poland, will perform.

LEM will say goodbye on the 29th with a closing concert by Danish artist Jørgen Teller and the mythical sound project Macromassa at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona.

Prices for the tickets range from 5 to 12 euros and can be purchased in advance at this link. You can also get a 40 euro season ticket to attend the seven paid concerts by writing to entrades@gracia-territori.com.
