Guided tours of the Bellesguard Tower
Pre-booked guided tours of the Gaudi-designed building have been available on a daily basis
Guided tours of the imposing Bellesguard Tower, also known as Casa Figueras, have been available since the 23rd of September.
The building was designed by Gaudí and built between 1900 and 1909 in the upper part of Sant Gervasi district on the street of the same name, although completion of the tower was later undertaken by Domènec Sugrañes and finally achieved in 1917.
Gaudí was entrusted with the project by María Sagués, the widow of Jaume Figueras, and began construction on the site of a 15th century palace, the summer residence of Martí I of Aragon. The renowned architect was inspired by these medieval origins and for this reason the manor house has the appearance of a small castle with tower and battlements included. The name ‘Bellesguard’ (Beautiful view) would appear to have its origin in the panoramic views that were offered of the city and the sea from the location of the house at the foot of the Tibidabo Mountain which, at the time, was outside the nucleus of the city.
