Do you want to know what hides behind the door of Dwelling 1/11 of the Casa Bloc?

The Design Museum of Barcelona organises guided tours of an apartment in one of the most symbolic buildings of rationalist architecture.

Every Saturday at 11 am you have the opportunity to go in the Museum-Apartment of the Casa Bloc, also called Dwelling 1/11. Located in the Sant Andreu district, more specifically in Carrer de l'Almirall Pròixida cornering with Passeig de Torras i Bages, the flat is part of a building considered a symbol of the rationalist architecture of Barcelona. It has been restored to give it its original appearance and, at the same time, to show the innovation that the Casa Bloc meant in its time — the first stone was laid in 1933. Guided tours of the house they are organised by the Design Museum of Barcelona, and tickets must be purchased in advance.

The Casa Bloc is signed by the architects Josep Lluís Sert, Josep Torres Clavé and Joan Baptista Subirana. It was built with the ideology of the GATCPAC (Group of Catalan Artists and Technicians for the Progress of Contemporary Architecture). It was promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya during the Second Republic in order to house the poorest workers, so that they could live in a building with quality architecture, adapted to the new times and the basic needs of the people. The house that can be visited is a duplex of 60 square meters, with a very simple internal distribution and that clearly differentiates the day part from the night part.

The guided tour lasts approximately one and a half hours. For more information, click here.
