Guided visits to the University of Barcelona
During the academic term, the UB is opening the doors to some of its most iconic spaces to small groups of visitors.
The first stone of what is today the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona (UB) was laid on the 22nd of October 1873. Almost one and a half centuries later, architect and mentor to Antoni Gaudí Elies Rogent's creation is still fulfilling its original function. It's privileged location, very near Plaça de Catalunya, and its majestic appearance have made it a well-known sight to both residents and visitors. But not so many people are familiar with its indoor areas, which harbour some fine examples of Barcelona's rich architectural and cultural heritage. To remedy that, the university offers guided visits throughout the year in the company of an expert, which are open to small groups of people. Two types of visit are available. One takes in the main vestibule, the Staircase of Honour, the Rector's office and the Paranymph, before finishing at the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library. The other visit misses out the library and heads, instead, for the Conciliar Seminary.
The visits, which last approximately one hour, are scheduled for 10 and 19 October and 7 and 30 November. Additional information is available at the following link.
