‘Herois a l'ombra’, a photographic exhibition in the Palau Robert

The internationally recognised Right Livelihood Awards are commonly known as the alternative Nobel prizes and acknowledge the efforts of those whose projects seek practical solutions to the more urgent problems and challenges facing the world today. Since 1980 an international jury has presented the awards in fields such as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable development, health, education and peace, among others. Right Livelihood was created by Swedish journalist and philatelist Jakob von Uexküll.

 

Since their establishment, the awards have been given to people and organisations with lower media profiles than Nobel winners, hence increasing the importance of public recognition. This is precisely the reason behind the Herois a l'ombra exhibition by photographer and Berlin resident Katharina Mouratidi, which consists of portraits of twenty-nine winners of the Right Livelihood Awards.

 

The exhibition, which runs until the 1st of September and for which entry is free, forms part of the programme Circuit 2013, Documentary Photography in Barcelona.
