Icons of Science

Three sessions of film forum on the image of science through cinema, at the Casal de Joves Palau Alòs.

The proposal "Icons of Science" not only aims to see good movies but also to discuss recurrent ideas around scientists and science, the image of the creative genius, the lone scientist isolated from the world, the "eureka! moment", the separation between theoretical science and applied science, or the concept of  neutral science.

This cycle will consist of three sessions led by various members of XEHC (History of Science Student Talks) who will present the film and then lead the discussion with the audience. The sessions will take place at the Casal de Joves Palau Alòs (Sant Pere mes Baix 55, Barcelona). The projections are as follows:

Creation (2009) by Jon Amiel
Friday April 12 from 6 to 8.30 pm

ovie on the figure of Darwin and Natural Selection generation as a mechanism to explain the evolution of species.
Session coordinated by Clara Florensa and Laura Valls.

Einstein and Eddington (2008) by Philip Martin
Friday May 3 from 6 to 8.30 pm
This film talks about the figure of Einstein and, especially, about the time that acquires fame thanks to the astronomical observations of Arthur Eddington.
Session coordinated by Joaquim Berenguer and Gustavo Corral.

Freud (1962) John Huston
Friday June 7, from 5 to 8.30 pm
Part of Freud's life and the process that develops the techniques of psychoanalysis is explored by this renowned Johm Hutson
film.

Mònica Balltondre, Andrea Graus and Óscar Montero Pich.

Organized by XEHC (History of Science Student Talks) program of the Societat Catalana d'Història de la Ciència i la Tècnica (SCHCT) in collaboration with the Casal de Joves Palau Alòs.
