‘If you could see me now’

Arno Schuitemaker presents ‘If you could see me now’

The Dutch choreographer returns to Hiroshima with this performance full of colour and energy.

Arno Schuitemaker is an aeronautical engineer who has become one of the most promising choreographers in the Netherlands. With his abstract yet mathematical shows, he has won several awards, including the Dioraphte Encouragement Award and 2nd Jury Prize at [re]connaissance. This CV shows his extraordinary talent, part of which has been funnelled into his new show: If you could see me now. As if immersed in the atmosphere of a nightclub, the three characters give themselves over to the crescendo of the choreography drawing the audience deeper and deeper into the scene. After, everything fades into a marvellous infinity, blue and silent, prolonging the space and time of the performance. Using continuous, perpetual movement, his perception-based works reflect love, loneliness and waiting. The artist tends to surround himself with great dancers, composers and lighting designers, which make his performances truly immersive experiences.

Schuitemaker’s new choreography will be on at Sala Hiroshima on 17 and 18 May starting at 8:30 pm. It is the second time this Dutch choreographer has visited our city. The first was in 2018, when he presented his work for the first time in Barcelona.

Tickets for the piece cost €16 if purchased ahead or €20 at the box office. You can get them on the theatre website.
