Suu and Maruja Limón

Women's music for International Women's Day

Suu and Maruja Limón will sing on 19 March at the Plaça Comercial.

Among the many activities that will take place during the month of March on the occasion of International Women's Day, it is worth mentioning the protest concert on 19 March in the Plaça Comercial in the Born. You will be able to see and hear the Barcelona singer-songwriter Suu, who at the age of 18 received the Enderroc award for the best new artist (2018) with her album Natural, and who has not stopped surprising us with her neo-indie music and her verses full of female empowerment. In 2020, she released the album Ventura, with which she made a name for herself on the Catalan and Spanish music scene, which only leads us to look forward to her third album, to be released this spring. On 19 March, we hope to be able to listen to some of her most popular songs, including the recent Barcelona Tropical or others like Eres un temazo and Ojalá.

She will be accompanied on stage by the Barcelona quintet Maruja Limón, a band filled with energy, intensity and joy that has just introduced the album Vidas. Esther González and Sheila Quero (vocals), Vicky Blum (guitar), Elisenda Fàbregas (percussion) and Mila González (trumpet) presented their first album in 2018, Más de ti, which won the award, that year, for best new group at the Premis ARC. Their music, which has travelled around Europe to countries such as the Netherlands, Hungary, Portugal and Italy, will be played in the Plaça Comercial, in front of the Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, in vindication of women's struggles.

The concert will start at 12.15 p.m., and admission will be free. You can find further information in the Women and feminism section of the Barcelona City Council website.
