A new cycle of films from Iran

The cycle is organized by Casa Asia and screenings will be held at Cinemes Girona.

Until 7 April, Cinemes Girona is hosting a cycle of films from Iran organized by Casa Asia. In total, ten feature films will be screened and it’s an excellent occasion to discover stories and filmmakers that do not usually make it to European screens.

The cycle began on 3 February with the screening of Houra, and will continue on Saturday 10 February with Mina's Option, a film by Tamal Tabrizi in which a young woman is captured by a terrorist group during the war between Iraq and Iran. A week later, we will have the opportunity to see Until Ahmad Returns by Sadegh Sadegh Daghighi, which also takes place in the context of the war between Iraq and Iran. Saturday 24 February sees the screening of Hamid Reza Ghorbani’s A House on 41st Street, which tells the story of Tehran family that falls apart when one brother kills another for money.

March sees the screening of five titles at Cinemes Girona: Bench Cinema (3 March), Cyanide (10 March), Ghashang & Farang (17 March), Stolen (24 March) and The Dream of Water (31 March). Closing the cycle, on Saturday 7 April, will be Sara & Aida, by Maziar Midi, the story of two friends and a good example of how women are increasingly taking centre place in Iranian films.

All the films in the cycle were made in the last three years and are by a new generation of Iranian filmmakers that is achieving more and more recognition both inside and outside of their country.
