Itineraries through Barcelona's great green lung

Recommendations for discovering the heritage of the Collserola Natural Park on your own.

The Collserola mountain range, declared a Natural Park a decade ago, represents the great green area of Barcelona and eight other municipalities in the metropolitan area. Its space treasures a natural, historical and architectural heritage of great value. Walking through it is a real escape from the urban hustle and bustle, an opportunity to stay fit, to find the peace and cool atmosphere of its shady valleys, to discover the biodiversity of the evergreen Mediterranean forests, to discover reservoirs, fountains, chapels and farmhouses, or to contemplate the spectacular views of peaks such as Tibidabo or the hill of Magarola. Throughout the year, the Collserola Natural Park offers various proposals for itineraries so that everyone gets to enjoy their surroundings to the fullest, whether alone or accompanied by family or friends.

The itineraries are classified into different types. The most suitable for everyone are the walks: 5 kilometres circular routes. Three of them start and end in Barcelona: the Itinerary of the Hills and the Itinerary of the Font Muguera, starting at the Torre Baró Castle in Nou Barris, and the Walk of Font de la Budellera, starting at the Park's Information Centre, 10 minutes from the FGC Baixador de Vallvidrera station.

Of a linear nature and with a length of around 10 kilometres, the journeys start and end in different places, always close to where public transport arrives. This is the case with L’obaga de Collserola, an itinerary that starts at the Baixador de Vallvidrera station and runs through the valleys to Sant Cugat, or Barcelona at the feet, a route along the ridge that leads from Torre Baró to Tibidabo with incredible views of the metropolitan area of the coastal sector.

The large routes (GR) and small routes (PR) are of varying lengths and are more technical, although there are also routes for all tastes and capacities. They are routes that run through the sections of the GR and PR that pass through the natural park, and which invite you to continue walking beyond this green space. This is the case of the GR 173-3, which in Collserola traces a 6-kilometre route from Can Canaletes (in Cerdanyola del Vallès) to the Plaça Karl Marx in Barcelona. Another example (and don't let the term "small route" fool you) is the PR 35, which in the park traces a 28-kilometre route from Papiol to Montcada and Reixac, passing through the area of Les Planes and the Barcelona waterfront.

There are many more itineraries, even for cycling. All of them are very worthwhile and allow you to discover the jewels of a great natural and historical treasure that we have next to home. Find all the itineraries in this link.
