The charming façades of La Ribera

A fascinating tour to discover how stone has shaped out the urban landscape of this Barcelona neighbourhood.

La Ribera and El Born are two of the most historic parts of Barcelona. These spaces are home to many buildings from different periods, all of  which are in really good condition, meaning that we can get an even better view of certain aspects of our city. If you want to take a deeper look into the history of La Ribera gazing at the façades of its houses and streets, you can't miss the tour entitled “Façanes que parlen de ciutat” (Façades that speak the city), organised by Born CCM. While you will find a plethora of different materials, it is stone that has always played a crucial role in construction, thanks to the grandeur it confers upon the buildings and the resilience and aesthetic qualities that it gives them. For many years Barcelona's stonemasons have been putting their skills to use to make the city even more beautiful using the stones taken from the Montjuïc quarry.

You can take the “Façanes que parlen de ciutat” tour every Sunday in January from 12 pm to 2 pm. The meeting point for the group will be the ticket offices at the Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria. Starting from there, you will go on a tour taking a look at elements such as balconies, doors, windows, façades, guard stones, sgraffiti, curbs and many other thing that form part of the urban landscape and the daily life of the neighbourhood’s residents.

Tickets for this activity will cost €4. You can book yours at the centre’s ticket office or on the Born CCM website.
