IV Barcelona-Gardel-Buenos Aires Tango Festival

From the 19th to the 29th of July, the fourth edition of the festival will bring tangos and milongas to various locations around the city, finishing up with a performance by Mora Godoy in the Teatre Grec

Declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2009, the tango has become one of the most unique and universal of all artistic manifestations found throughout the five continents. Since 2011, Barcelona has been celebrating the Barcelona-Gardel-Buenos Aires Tango Festival with the aim of both disseminating and promoting the genre and paying tribute to one of its most prominent exponents, Carlos Gardel.

This year’s festival kicks off at 9 pm on Saturday the 19th of July in the Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius C.A.T. with a milongas concert at the hands of the Rehder & Battaglia Quartet.

On the 23rd, at 8 pm in Casa Amèrica, Marcelo Mercadente and his Quinteto Porteño, accompanied by Ana Rossi, will present a concert featuring the bandoneon, the large accordion characteristic of the genre.

From the Parc de la Ciutadella to the Plaça Reial where, on Sunday the 27th of July, the traditional open-air ‘grand milonga’ will take place – bringing the tango to venues such as the Casa Valencia and La Yumba.

Mora Godoy has been entrusted with closing the festival with an evening of tango in the Teatre Grec on Tuesday the 29th of July. An internationally recognised creator of successful musicals and member of the National Academy of Tango, Godoy has travelled the world with her own company, Buenos Aires Tango, fusing tradition with the avant-garde in performances that are as unique as they are impassioned.

The Barcelona-Gardel-Buenos Aires Tango Festival will take place from the 19th to the 29th of July. Some performances are free of charge while others require tickets. For more information on the programme and tickets, please consult the festival website.
