“Japan, country of contrasts”, in the Disseny Hub Barcelona
One of the building's entrance halls is hosting an exhibition of four contemporary Japanese artists which can be seen up until the 22nd of February
Since the 6th of February, the Carrer Àvila entrance hall of the Disseny Hub Barcelona has played host to an exhibition entitled Japan, country of contrasts. Organised by A-FAD (Barcelona association of artists and artisans for the promotion of decorative arts) in collaboration with the Japanese cultural organisation, Jackie & Partners, the exhibition is part of the programme of events for the Spain Japan Dual Year, which commemorates 400 years of relations between the two countries.
The exhibition focuses on four contemporary Japanese artists who have achieved a multi-disciplinary blend of modernity and tradition, each with their own particular style - Sadato Kurotake with his characteristically Japanese decorative folding screens inspired by works from the 17th and 18th centuries, Cecilie Okada with digital illustrations, Megumi Koyama with printed fabrics and textiles and, finally, Skusaka Akita, the Japanese composer.
The exhibition is curated by Jacqueline Tessier, director of Jackie & Partners, and Magda Polo, professor of philosophy and musicology and can be seen from Tuesday to Sunday until 8 pm. Entry is free.
