Jaume de Laiguana in the Palau Robert

The Regional Government of Catalonia, with the sponsorship of COSMIC and the collaboration of the Barcelona City Council, has organised an exhibition of photographer Jaume de Laiguana (Barcelona, 1966) titled Jaume de Laiguana. Exposició fotogràfica. Retrospectiva 1997-2012, which will be open to the public from the 1st of March to the 26th of May.

 

The selection has been made by the photographer himself and includes examples of the particular aesthetic perspective and social commitment that he has developed throughout his career, highlighting conflicts such as abuse of the environment, the enslavement of the body, or the fights against AIDS.

 

De Laiguana, who began his career as art director to later enter the world of advertising and the production of spots and video clips, for which he received nominations for MTV and Grammy awards, takes the leap into the world of artistic photography. Far from the world of advertising and production, though without forgetting his origins, the photographs represent a quest for beauty through imperfection.

These non-conformist, provocative works incite reflection in the spectator through images that speak of the virtue of defects and the beauty of imperfection.
