Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s “The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet” opens in cinemas

The film by the director of “Amélie” is an adaptation of an international best-seller by Reif Larsen and opens in cinemas on the 4th of July

The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet tells the story of a twelve-year-old genius who lives with his oddball family on a ranch in Montana, in the USA. His outstanding talent as a map maker and inventor is soon rewarded, however, when a distinguished scientific institution present him with a prestigious award for one of his creations, unaware that his is still a child, and he sets off on his own across the country to collect it in possession of nothing but a small suitcase.

With this scenario, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the French-born film maker responsible for such iconic films as Delicatessen and Amélie, presents his particular adaptation of Reif Larsen’s international best-seller, The Selected Works of S.P. Spivet, itself a publishing phenomenon in more than twenty countries.

The film, which opens in cinemas on the 4th of July (also in 3D), can be described as a western-influenced combination of children’s story and road movie that is also somewhat reminiscent of the novels of Jules Verne.

The Young and Prodigious S.P. Spivet stars Kyle Catlett as the young protagonist, Helena Bonham Carter, Robert Maillet and Judy Davis, among others. It closed the last edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival, coming away with the César Award for Best Photography.
