Joaquín Cortés presents the world premiere of “Gitano”, in the Tívoli

The dancer’s new production signals a return to his origins and can been seen in four performances only, from the 2nd to the 4th of May

Three years after his international tour of Latin America, Europe and the USA, Joaquín Cortés returns to the peninsula, on this occasion to Barcelona, to present his latest production in which he explores his gypsy-flamenco roots.

On Friday the 2nd of May, Joaquín Cortés will present the world premiere of Gitano (Gypsy), a performance in which he invites the audience to discover the essence of gypsy culture through an hour-and-three-quarters-long explosion of classic, contemporary and flamenco dance and music. From orthodox flamenco to classical music, and combining elements of gospel and jazz and afro rhythms, Cortés fuses a wide variety of genres with his flamenco roots in a performance designed to highlight the essence of his gypsy culture.

Gitano can be seen in four performances only, Friday the 2nd of May at 9 pm, Saturday the 3rd at 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm, and Sunday the 4th at 7 pm. In all performances, Cortés will be accompanied by eight female and two male dancers as well as a group of seventeen musicians and eight-voice flamenco troupe. The production also features a multi-screen audio-visual montage and meticulously crafted lighting. Tickets range from 28 to 60 € and can be purchased through the teatre Tívoli website.
