“Jordi Alumà, 75 years painting in Barcelona”

From the 22nd of January to the 9th of March the Museu Marítim in Barcelona will be hosting an exhibition entitled Jordi Alumà, 75 anys de pintura a Barcelona (Jordi Alumà, 75 years painting in Barcelona). The exhibition includes a number of paintings created using traditional techniques such as egg tempera, grisaille and pastel on Japanese paper, in which the artist creates evocative scenes of the streets of Barcelona as seen from the rooftops.

Jordi Alumà defines himself as a self-taught painter influenced by the work of Jacques Villon. After an initial stage as an arts student in the Propaganda Commission of the Generalitat de Catalunya during the civil war, Alumà travelled in Italy, The Netherlands, France and the United States of America and adopted a precise, refined, figurative style characterised by meticulousness and patience. He has been entrusted with a number of sporting murals for institutional buildings in various parts of the world.

Internationally recognised as one of the finest exponents of the retable technique, he has exhibited extensively in countries such as France, Mexico, Argentina, Japan and the US, where he was commissioned to decorate the offices of Banco Atlantico in New York in 1983.

The exhibition displays works of full artistic maturity that have their origins in poster art and 20th century Catalan landscape art.
